Dental, Vision, and Hearing Coverage

Many Medicare Beneficiary enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan enjoy the added Dental, Vision, and Hearing coverage as an extra benefit but often enroll in a separate dental plan because not all of the plans offer enough coverage for Preventative, Basic, and Major Restorative Dental benefits.

When Can I Enroll

There are different times of the year when you can add dental coverage depending on you they type of coverage you want. 

Stand alone Dental plans can be added at any time of the year, but be careful most have waiting periods before you can use the plans for Basic services such as fillings and Major services such as crowns. and not all plans have benefits for implants 

Medicare Advantage Plans with dental as an extra benefit can be added during your Initial Enrollment Period, which starts the third month before your 65th birthday and runs for seven months or during the Annual Enrollment Period — beginning October 15 and ending on December 7. 

How Much Does It Cost

Dental plans vary widely based on the type of coverage you need and amount of coverage you want the plan. Premiums for some Medicare Advantage Plans with dental services can be as low as $0 per month, while others may be $35 per month.

Premiums for stand-alone dental plans range from $50 to $100 per month. In many cases, you get what you pay for, and higher-cost plans generally offer lower deductibles and co-payments, and full dental coverage.
